The experiment: Can black walnut hull powder dye or tint your hair? More specifically, can it dye or tint white and grey hair?
The process: 1-Buy some black walnut hull powder from a reputable source. I purchased mine on
www.mountainroseherbs.com You can also use fresh black walnuts that you have around your home. Apparently fresh walnuts work best! I did not use whole black walnuts for this experiment and cannot give you directions. A quick Google search will help you out!

2- Now, there are many different ways to prepare it. I brought 1 cup of water to a boil. I mixed in 3 tbs of walnut powder. I let it simmer for 2 minutes. I took it off the stove and mixed in another 3 tbs of walnut powder. I let it sit for 1 hour.
Here's what it looked like:
3- I then took a small plastic container/glass/cup and dumped the concoction in it. I dipped my hair (only one side of my bangs) into the container. I made sure my hair was completely submerged. And then I held the container for the next 30 minutes right up against my forehead. YES you will look ridiculous. Whatever you do, don't answer the door!!
4- After 30 mins I pressed all the liquid out of the hair and let it air dry. I then rinsed it out and let it dry. Here are the results:
BEFORE AFTER
Conclusion: It seems to have made my natural light brown hair a little bit darker but my white hairs seem unchanged...I'm definitely not too impressed.. BUT if you search the inter webs, there are people who don't have white or grey hair and they have had success. Some say the consistency has to be just right. Maybe mine is too thick? Others say you start to see a difference after the 3rd application. Maybe I should try this 3 days in a row? Maybe I should sleep with it in my hair?
I will be applying it on my hair tonight, wrapped in plastic wrap and see you all tomorrow again with my results!
If anyone has tried this, let me know how it went for you and if you know what I might of done wrong.
